This image depicts an old style windmill from the American west standing over it's companion cistern. The windmill pumps water for the cistern which also catches any rainwater that should fall.

This image was modeled and rendered in Bryce 4. Photoshop was used for color modifications and a little softening of the sky. The windmill plank texture was augmented in Painter 6, which was also used to paint in the prairie grass.
